About Nesma

What does Nesma mean and what do you do?

Nesma (Netherlands Software Metrics Users Association) started May 12, 1989 under the name NEFPUG (NEtherlands Function Point Users Group). In 1995 we changed our name into NESMA.

Nesma is now an independent international organization focused on software metrics and software measurement. Besides creating and standardizing measurement guidelines and function points, we also partner with benchmark organisations and we provide guidelines for applying metrics in for example project steering, outsourcing and contracts. Also, we regularly organize events and meetings for users or practitioners of software metrics and for our members.

Can Nesma help me with, or advise me on, a measurement approach or measurement programme?

Nesma is an association of users and does not undertake commercial activities. However, on this website we provide sufficient information about software measurement topics in the form of standards, guidelines, news, events and informative pages about the application and use of software metrics. There are plenty of commercial providers and organisations in the market who are members of the Nesma that can help in the planning and implementation of software metrics, or taking care of for example function point training.
