The Easy Functional Sizing (EFS) method provides a simplified and accessible approach to functional size measurement. It is based on the high-level function point analysis as described in the Nesma counting guidelines and has been further streamlined to reduce complexity and ambiguity in practical use. This makes EFS particularly well-suited for use in modern development environments such as Agile and DevOps.
The book contains 4 parts:
- The reason why any organization and teams should use functional size measurement and the benefits of increased transparency.
- The EFS counting guidelines (very short, easy to learn, easy to apply).
- Practical guidance on how to implement EFS into your organization.
- Practical examples on how to measure using EFS.
This international standard is part of the official Nesma publications. It is intended for everyone involved in functional size measurement — from novice analysts to experienced professionals — and enables consistent and independent sizing, even with limited prior experience. The EFS method ensures results that are comparable to traditional high-level analyses, as demonstrated in supporting research (see Appendix A of the standard).
This publication provides both a theoretical foundation and practical guidance, making it easier to apply functional size measurement in a wide range of projects and organizational settings.
