    Scenario:
It is folder migration. Path is provided and data is moved into temp location first (within boundary). Then the data is extracted to process further with business rules. Once the process is complete, tool picks up the data and export the data to migration db (outside the boundary – Maintained by 3rd party vendor).

    Other details:

    • Data is taken from source via path.
    • Estimation is based on size of the folder to be migrated (for example, 100 GB, 200 GB, etc)
    • No information about the content in the folder. Nested folder structure.

    Queries:

    • Can we count this application?
    • If yes, how do we consider the logical files and what type of transactions should it be – EI/EO?

    Thanks in advance,

    Deepa

    Dear Deepa,

Of course you can count this type of software with function points, but you should ask yourself what you want to measure and if it is useful to use functional size for that. The functionality is rather straightforward and the volume of data to be migrated is probably more important than the functionality.

With regard to the logical files, I see at least two:

    1. A logical file with information on the path and document name for the migration process
    2. A logical file with information on the individual documents: type, size, hash for verification of migration integrity

    Regards, Frank
